Philosophy and kilts!
Just wanted to report that I'm the only professor here who is noted for having men in the class in 'skirts' and no women wearing skirts. Well, this happened because I wear a kilt and that encouraged some other men in the class to do so. Until today no lass had worn a skirt in class. The young lady who wore a skirt to class today informed me that it was not really a skirt but a long shirt. So the kilted philosophy professor (me) still has the only class where men wear 'skirts' and women don't.

I serve on several committees at my church. One of them holds a monthly meeting at a randomly chosen local food establishment. Three months ago, our reputation got out as the only committee that the ladies wear trousers and the men wear "skirts". (five kilted men and four women in trousers.) The "international" signs on the restrooms have now been the focus of most of the jokes in our direction, including by the waitstaff at one of these establishments. Due to the current economy, we were the only people at the noon hour dining there, and were very welcomed by the staff. The manager had gone on the web and printed a picture of a kilted gent, and a female fashion model in trousers, and taped them to the proper restroom doors during our lunch. I did not have a camera with me, but it got roars of laughter from everyone there. As others came into the restaurant, and then head to the facilities, they did quite a double take. The restaurant has since laminated the pictures and adhered them to the doors.

I have had a similar experience where I'm adjunct faculty. After retiring from 34 years in public education (13 years teaching and 21 years as elem. principal), a local college asked me to supervise student teachers and do some seminars. For the first seminar I walked in with my new Newsome kilt on, I looked around....all young ladies and another female professor....ALL in pants. So, I quipped that it seemed that roles were a bit reversed, but I was just as comfortable in my attire as they were in theirs!! I was flattered by the young ladies' attention to a 55 year old, bald man.....in a KILT!!

Good on ya Kiltman. It's nice to hear that you have some converts in your class.
Great story Steve!
