A tip to those who ordered X Marks fabric.

Rocky and I were talking today and we both realized that no one has mentioned the pre-washing of the fabric yet.

I guess I should have mentioned it but I'm sorry, I forgot.

The P/V fabric from Marton Mills should be washed in cold water all by it self the first time. A little of the dye on P/V fabric sometimes come off on your hands and other clothing until the first washing.

With the dark colors of the X Marks Tartan and those of the Firefighters Memorial Tartan we are finding that everything turns Blue or Red. Your table top, your hands, everything.

So, a hint to all of you who ordered fabric from this years run we post this note and tip.

If you wish to pre-wash your fabric before making your Kilt run a zig-zag along the raw or cut edges then throw it in the washer.

If you are going to make the Kilt first please wash the Kilt before your wear it.

And don't put anything else in the washer with the fabric or Kilt.

After the first washing everything should be OK. But Rocky and I wanted to let everyone know so that there are no surprises of someone doing the the first wash and throwing in their white hose and Aran Sweater with the Kilt and having things come out Blue.

    Thanks for the warning!

I've worked with denim that had me feeling Blue even after the first wash . . .

99% of the fabric we get from MM is color fast (nothing will bleed in the wash). I ONLY noticed this b/c my fingertips were turning blue after sewing up the first XMARKS PV kilt.

Sydnie brings up a good comparison... when you get a new pair of 'indigo blue' colored jeans, you need to run them through a cycle all by themselves. Ditto for the XMTS tartan.

    Now that's thinking!
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

...and thus it was, a mere oversight on the WASH TEMPERATURE dial gave birth to the XMTS Weathered Tartan.

I'll double check the dial when the time comes.
