    White, Black or colored hose

I prefer dark blue hose with kilts then maybe black.
Does anyone have a preferance or does it matter

    Welcome!

Yes, you will find there are many here who hold strong opinions about that subject. I'm rather new here myself and don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.

Some will say that you should NEVER wear white hose.

Some will say that you should only wear white hose if you are in a pipe band.

Some will say that white hose are okay with some tartans.

I don't believe I've ever heard anybody say that the white hose looked smashing.

My first pair of hose were white, I now have some navy blue and black. I favor the navy blue, but think that any color might look good, depending on the tartan and the level of formal dress you were aiming for.

    Enjoy the forum!

    White or colored hose

I personally think true-white hose look quite formal.

Winter white or off white hose are nice with kilts that have a significant white stripe.

On my own boys I favor the "heather" hose for casual wear, and am currently knitting my son a pair in navy donegal tweed (tiny flecks of different colors).

Anybody else ever hand knit hose?

I wear cream colored hose, not "white" and also "Gray", looking to pick up some "Black" and maybe a pair or two of "Navy Blue" I may not be a good one to ask.

Greens and blues mainly; red and white diced for formal. I gave up white hose a while ago and don't miss them one iota and black just don't look quite right to me (a bit too funereal). Next up will be some of the yellow Lewis hose from STM which i think will look rather fetching with my Gordon tartan.

What "occasion" are you referring to, Casual, Day were, business, formal, etc ??
IMHO, this may "dictate" the hose.

Here, IMHO, is my take on hose.

    1. I prefer whie only for casual ( if white is in my Kilt ), or "Formal"

    2. Casual to casual Business = Colored ( matching a color on my kilt )

    3. Business Dress & Eve wear = Subdued colors, matching my kilt ( Grey, Black, Navy etc.)
