The kilt surely is the most social garment any person could wear
As this was the Scottish pipe band championship in Dumbarton last Saturday 16th May, I met with friends in the Three Judges in Partick on Friday night.
The bar staff are always very efficient and helpful but usually it is so busy there is little time for any conversation with the barstaff. Not so last Friday night when I arrived kilted, you would have thought I was a long lost friend as the faces of barstaff and customers welcomed me.
It was the same on Saturday night at the restaurant and karaoke after the contest, every one wants to talk to a kiltie.
You have got to remember this is the home of the kilt but Scots who wear the kilt now at the drop of a hat for football and rugby matches, parties and weddings just love to see anyone weraing their national dress.
One thing that has certainly changed over the years is the acceptance of the kilt being worn outside weddings and formal occassions, perhaps this is because so many young people embrace wearing the kilt

I think it's wonderful that this change, this revolution, this "revolving of the times" is taking place. Not only am I glad because I am a kiltie as well, but because I am increasingly concerned about our deracinated lives. We've accomplished so much over the last couple hundred years with the industrial revolution, but it's come at such a high cost. I'd like to think we're "reconnecting" with our history and our heritage more and more. (In this case, I'm obviously focused on kilts, but I think it goes further than that.)
Up the revolution!

I have always said that one cannot be shy and wear the kilt.

That's good to hear. I'm sure the issues attached to wearing a kilt here in the US are different that those in Scotland, but I do find the same, very positive response in my home town, whenever I go kilted to work, play, social events, you name it. So I think your title for the thread is right on the money.

That IS a very encouraging report... I would so love to get to Scotland and see it for myself!

The only thing about wearing the kilt in a pub is that you have always got to be ready to talk to everyone that wants to talk to you and mostly it is the same questions that you are asked conastantly.
But whenever the day comes when no one talks to me when I wear the kilt then I''ll stop wearing it. I must admit like most kilt wearers we love the attention

It's certainly my experience that the wearing of the kilt is well received nowadays. However I remember my parents dressing me in the kilt for church as a young boy and the shouts of "kilitie kiltie cold bum" from older boys on the way home.
