Council of Chiefs meeting
Anyone know what this will really be like? Will it be a discussion or several speakers and everyone else just listens?

Meeting where/when? Can you give us a link to more information so that we can respond appropriately?

From my point of view, this will be as a meeting of Heads Of States. I don't imagine there will be an open forum.. They have to much to discuss when you consider the number of clans that will be represented there!
I don't believe the idea is to arrive in heaven in a well preserved body! But to slide in side ways,Kilt A' Fly'n! Scream'en "Mon Wha A Ride" Kilted Santas

Hard to tell from the limited information what the meeting will be like, but it is obvious that it will not be open to the public.
Due to limited capacity only chiefs, clan commanders and leading clan representatives will be invited to attend by The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.

Meetings of the Standing Council are not open to the public; for this one, however, Council has invited certain leading members of Clan Associations to attend. The full agenda has yet to be tabled, but there will be an opportunity for world thoughts on clanship to be expressed in one of the two main sessions. Remember that the Council is not some sort of association of associations, but an organisation comprised exclusively of hereditary heads of clans and families as acknowledged by Lord Lyon.

The Standing Council has an AGM and luncheon, usually the same day as Her Majesty's Garden Party at Holyrood House. The ongoing work of the Council is conducted by various committees, and their efforts coordinated and recorded by the Secretary of the Standing Council.

Yes, exactly. "Homecoming" is actually quite a commercial enterprise and there were many chiefly objections in the early days. There's no profit in what they do for the chiefs and many of them felt that they were being taken out of a closet and dusted off to someone else's benefit. That's no doubt still true to a large extent, but the chiefs have decided to take advantage of the largest ever assembly of themselves to see if something can be done for the concept of clanship in the 21C.
