    Reservations for Grandfather Mountains!

I just made my reservations for my son and I for the highland games at GrandFather Mountain next month. They said the rooms were starting to fill up for those dates, but there were still some open. I checked several places before making mine and the rates do stay about the same but they are offering the usual 10% for AARP and so on.

I got the best rate at Sleep Inn of Boone, it about 15 minutes from the games.

Look forward to meeting you at Grandfather.

Stop by the campsite (don't know where it will be yet) but there will be flags and a Watson banner.

Um,,, well,,, it's one big kilted extravaganza at Grandfather.

We get to the campground the Tuesday before and leave the next Monday. It's a great group of people, have made many new friends on the mountain.

Really don't know about anything going on in the surrounding area.

I'm still planning on going up. My girlfriend's family lives in the nearby hills.

The kids and I will be there with our pop up. This time we'll be there from Monday the 6th to Sunday. Just look for the Iraqi Freedom flag. Where is the link up point this year?

I will arrive Wednesday to pitch my tent and get the lay of the land.

Any suggestions on what to pack? Will it get cold at night? Do I need to buy a cord of wood?

    Regards,
    Rex.

What we really need to do is exchange cell numbers so we can hook up, we, son David and I will be arriving Thursday afternoon in time for the start up.

I definately don't want to miss the chance to put faces with all the names here.

Does anyone know weather the camp ground has a pool or not?

    So there's cell service there?

I will offer my cell number to any X-marker who's planning to attend whose profile I recognize in exchange for same via PM.

    Rex.

Yes, the cell service is quite good there (I use Verizon, and always get a strong signal...other services may not be so good).

The campground is not a campground...it's a pasture and some open woodland. There are no real amenities (unless you count the port-a-johns )

The usual meetup spot has been the Tartans Museum tent. Matt wasn't there last year, but we met at his tent anyway. I don't know if he's planning to attend this year, but the Museum tent will certainly be there and in a choice location for a meeting. I'll be there all weekend, but as I said in the other thread I'll be busy cooking for a band at lunch time every day, so a mid-morning or mid-afternoon meeting would be best for me.

As for "kilt nights", GMHG is not really near any towns that would provide a better venue than the games and campground area itself. There are always evening concerts and events, so you really don't need to go anywhere. Believe me, once you get parked and settled in, the last thing you'll want to do is move your car.
