    Wish me luck....

OK, I took the plunge. I emailed the director of the clinic I work in about the possibility of wearing a kilt to work on the occasional "casual Friday" on the argument that a properly kitted out kilt wearer looks INFINITELY sharper and more professional than the typical jean-clad clinician. A comfortable doctor is a happy and productive doctor, I think! (Jeans are the usual "dress-down" outfit around here.)

Haven't heard back yet. We'll see.....

I'll knock on wood for you. Good luck.

Out of curiosity did you give them a photo of the kind of outfit you intended?

    Cheers

No, I just went for it, and don't have one handy. The clinic director may consult the COO, who HAS seen me kilted at the last agency Christmas party and LOVED it! He talked it up for WEEKS afterward. I'm hopeful!!

Good luck! I hope this works out for you. I agree that a kilted man far outshines a jean-clad man.

I am a radiologist (department head at a childrens hospital) and wear my kilts to wokr for various occasions and sometimes just for grins, usually on a day when I do not anticipate much if any direct interaction with patients (I do a fair amount of office administration duty). My department love the kilts, as do the patients, parents, and other doctors and nurses, and my various bosses. I typically dress up a bit from my normal work wear (dress pants and a sport shirt) by wearing a tie and vest or jacket with the kilt, so if anything I am dressing better in the kilt than when not kilted. No problems so far, although I am very careful to minimize my contact with kids (my patient population) and I never go commando/regimental at work just on the outside chance that a mishap were to occur or someone was to question the propriety of my attire.

Good luck. If it works send pics of you kilted at work.

Best of luck, and I think ForresterModern's advice is right on the money.

Good to hear ForresterModern! I am a psychiatrist and the medical director at my clinic, but work within a larger agency with some administrators "above" me for lack of a better description. I figured just "running it by" the clinical director would be a good idea, to make sure no-one would have a major issue with it.

I did get an email back, and seem to have the "green light"! So, I'm planning to go kilted the next Friday 'm in!

    Well done!!
I wear my kilt to work occasionally I'm a retail optician, I have always had good comments. Just don't go regimental, again to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions, that could put the end to your adventure.
