    Turnbull Gathering

The Turnbulls have arrived in Hawick for their clan society gathering and I was out with my camera this morning as they began to assemble outside Turnbulls coffee shop.

Turnbull Clan Society members with ex provost Myra Turnbull and welcome host Tony Wilson.

Meantime I cemented relations with our visitors from overseas.

Chief of the Turnbull Clan Association, William Turnbull raises the banner at the Hawick Horse.

    Turnbulls together.

Myra Turnbull posed with her chief.

Provost Zandra Elliot with Councillor George Turnbull.

Hawick Pipe Band leads the parade.

    The parade gets underway

Some of the Turnbull clan on the march, more to follow shortly.

Not all of the marching Turnbulls wore kilts but many did.

Hawick Pipe Band leads the march of the Turnbulls along Hawick High Street.

Chief of the Turnbull Clan Association William Turnbull and his wife accompany Provost Zandra Elliot and ex Provost Myra Turnbull on the march.

The oldest and youngest Turnbulls followed at the end of the parade.
Where are they marching to? See next post.

The Turnbulls marched to Hawick's town civic space, adjacent to Drumlanrig's Tower, the Tower Mill and the Heritage Hub.

Who could have foreseen a few hundred years ago that an Elliot would one day welcome the Turnbulls back to Hawick?

The Turnbull Standard is raised over the new statue which is shortly to be unveiled.

The cover is peeled off the statue.

All is revealed, a magnificent statue of William of Rule turning the head of the bull away from King Robert the Bruce thereby saving his life. Legend has it that this is the origin of the Turnbull name although the Scottish Clan and Family Encyclopaedia by George Way of Plean and Romilly Squire informs us that the name more likely derives from the old English trumbald meaning strong or bold.

I took a short time out to go and photograph the Turnbull events marquee where they will be holding their dinner and a concert with Scocha performing live.
I will return in my next post with a better view of the statue.

I returned to the town civic space in time to meet this well dressed couple.

They were happy to pose for a photo beside the statue.

There were also a few Border Reiver re-enactors.

As the Turnbulls dispersed for lunch I headed for home to upload my photos.
