I would say that Highland wear, especially in the jacket department, is already heavily inspired by the military.

I saw a lowlife on the bus the other day wearing a pseudo-SS uniform.

Are you sure it wasn't some of the old DDR surplus? Back after the Berlin Wall fell and reunification, the market was flooded with DDR surplus -- I still see kinds on occasion wearing DDR overcoats, etc. And for all of their Communism, the DDR heavily based their uniforms on the Wermacht's uniforms.*

    *Point of information only.

Well, it had Fasces emblems on the collar, so I just assumed he was a neoNazi.

In the US, if you can acquire a certain Air Force jacket at the surplus store it's supposed to be a nice fit at the waist to wear with a kilt. Similarlly there was more of a WWII style Army jacket called an "Eisenhower Jacket" that fitted the same way, but I don't think you see these very often. I have a US Navy black sweater (called a "jersey") with black patches that goes well with my kilts, and I've seen what must be the Army version several times on other folks. The problem with most of the above is that the Highland Games I go to in the South are usually Hot Too Hot for jackets and sweaters! I have a couple of white Air Force shirts that have epaulets, are comfortable in the heat, and look nice that I wear sometimes.

These are all Government issued and not civilian clothes like you asked for in you post, but I thought I'd throw them out anyway. I can take a picture of the white shirts and jerseys if you like.

Hope you find something useful! I know I'm always on the look out!
