Counting pennies...
With all the "jones"ing for tweeds, sporrans, etc... butting up against budgets and the holidays... I sat on the floor in front of the TV last night and counted and rolled coins. I maintain 2 large vases - one for quarters and one for everything else. The end result:

There is over $500 in pennies, nickles, dimes and (mostly) quarters in that tupperware container... I now have to "prioritize" my wish list and lug all this to the bank.
What are your tricks to save?

so far, I have resold kilts, to get what I wanted... but I also keep a coffee can, I keep my change in... I am wanting a jacket, so we will see how long it takes the change to grow.

I too save me change, but I have a side line on ebay where I sell a custom made side cover for motorcycles that I have designed. It is where most of me mad money comes from.

What about the Coinstar machines? I figure I can count quarters all by myself, but I figure it is worth it to pay them to count pennies and nickels. When times are really tough, I make sure to go through the self-serve line at the grocery store, so nobody can tell I am pumping 375 pennies, nickels, and dimes in to pay for a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter- and, of course, a bunch of ramen noodles. Oh, and a six pack.

I have a box with pennies being saved, but I only have about a dollar in there because I don't earn a lot of pennies right now.
I am, however, making things to sell on ebay and Etsy and the like. Hopefully I can get together enough to buy the Xmarks fabric I want and have someone sew it up into a Kilt for me.

I have a water cooler bottle which every evening I toss in the spare change I receive during the day except for quarters. On Friday evening everything goes in the bottle. It adds up quickly if we don't have to dip into it for school lunch money, etc.
BTW great job in saving the big bucks!

I recommend the dollar savings plan.
1. You never spend a one-dollar bill.
2. If you break a five or bigger, you do not spend any ones you get in change
3. At the end of the day, you put all the dollars away.
It really doesn't take long to accumulate quite a little horde. You'll also think twice before buying something really frivilous for 50 cents.
