My Newsome is IN! Now the shipping jones!

The best phone call ever! I just received a call from the folks at the Scottish Tartans Museum and my hand-made, one-of-a-kind, first-kilt-in-my-own-design is in!!!!!!!

I designed a tartan in honor and named for my late grandfather which echoes our family's history. I spoke with Matt a few times and sent him the design I worked up and now it's done!

The first kilt in a brand new tartan!

Yes this post is premature because I'm not holding the kilt in my hand right now and sharing pictures of it with y'all. I somehow think there may be a few here who understand my total lack of control in pre-posting

My grandfather was an avid Civil War historian and our family's leading genealogist. I wanted to design a tartan that spoke to his love of history and our family's past.

I designed the tartan with specific meaning behind each color. The Blue and Grey represent the fact that my family served on both sides of the US Civil War. I made sure that both colors touched as well as overlapped.

The Green is for the mountains of West Virginia where my family first settled and for the mountains of North Carolina that my grandfather and the rest of our family love so well.

The Red is for the long line (at least on in each generation) of those in our family called to military service. I made sure it ran along side of the Blue and Grey.

The White line if for the many family ancestors and current members who have devoted their lives to public and/or religious service.

Finally, the Purple line is for the Lavendar that my late grandmother always planted by her door and brought into the house in dried bunches. When I smell lavendar I always think of her.

Very well done with that tartan, and no wonder you're so excited. I can imagine your "shipping jones" is going to be excruciating... but well worth it! Looking forward to the pics.
