A rather upsetting day for me.

I am often moved to tears reading fellow Xmarks posts about losing a beloved pet. I can be quite emotional when it comes to furry family members.

Today was a bad day for me as I had to have my 16 y/o cat put to sleep due to severely deteriorating health issues. I've never had to do this with a pet before, it was easily the second-hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life. Luckily we live in a very small town and the vet came to the house.

Lincoln was a diabetic wonder-cat. He put up with the twice daily regime of insulin shots without making a fuss, and endured the 12-hour ride from our old house to our new home when we moved two years ago. I got him as a 6-week old kitten way back in 1993. Aside from family, he's the longest relationship I've ever had. He even pre-dates my wife! LOL

Anyway...just needed to get this off my shoulders. Here's a pic of Lincoln taken about a year ago, showing off a bit of his trademark "catittude".

Al, only someone who has had to put down a beloved pet can begin to know.

I am not really a great person for animals in general, but there's something about a personal pet that gets to you, shows you about life, and reveals some secrets about yourself to you--that you really didn't know before.

I am just so sorry. Lincoln has served a very noble purpose in your life.

I feel for you. We had to put down a cat that was our oldest daughter's from when she was a child. It hurts, but it is right and will last as long as we have our wits about us.

Cheers, and a new kitty will cure what ails you.

Pets are truly the only family members that we get to pick out. I am sorry for your loss.

Al, I send my deepest sympathy. I've been there too with my pets and I know that I'll be there again as my current pets age. Odd, but it is tonight as I log on to X Marks that our family cat, Rocky chose to sit on my chair at the computer. As I type this he is curled up aside me forcing me to make do with half a seat.

    Al,

Again, my condolences. He lived a good life with you.

    RIP Lincoln.
