Custom Celtic?
Hi All,
I ordered a glengarry, it was too big, returned for refund to PayPal, as agreed upon in an email....
Well, now the hat was delivered back to the vendor 5 days ago, and my recent emails have gone unanswered and no refund has been issued..
Has anyone had recent contact? I can't tell if the vendor can't send emails or is just refusing to.......

As long as it has not been 30 days since the completion of the auction, and you paid with Paypal, you can file a paypal grievance and they will suspend the funds transfer pending the outcome of their review. You can also dispute the charges on a credit card if that was used in the payment. Third, elevating your more and more frequent emails from the " I am unhappy with this transaction and want a refund" to "I remain unhappy and will be filing a grievance with ebay and Paypal and considering filing poor feedback with Ebay" level to the "I have cancelled my credit card payment for this transaction and will be filing poor feedback on ebay unless the payment is returned forthwith (used your own language)". Just make sure to keep the pressure on, maintain copies of your communications, maintain your cool and businesslike manner, and get it all done within 30 days of payment so that you can actually file the grievances as described above. I hope when you returned it you did so in such a way to prove that it actually got back to the original vendor (trackable shipping with delivery verification).
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Yup, delivery verification - got the tracking info from USPS.....
I hate to escalate it, but a vendor demands payment before shipping an item, I expect the same......

JEFF:
I am not taking exception to anything you said but would add, if you use PayPal to pay someone and the transaction was not on EBay it does change your ability to address the issue. I had a recent experience going through this, and if you read the TOS for PayPal this becomes pretty clear.
An even murkier issue comes up with challenging through your credit card company. I bet 5 people calling the bank will get 5 different answers. The reason I say this was that bank pointedly said the charge was from PayPal not from Merchant Name Withheld. So they were saying disputing the charge was in essence disputing the PayPal charge not the merchants. Although this got very convoluted. Very confusing, lots of different answers no clear understanding.

Well, all I was asking for from this vendor was that a refund was in process.
I paid by PayPal, and expected the refund to go through PayPal.
This vendor finally replied after I filed a dispute via PayPal. (Granted, the dispute system on PayPal isn't really set up for this sort of thing - either item not received or item not as described - I picked one for no particular reason)
I was just informed that a check had been sent on Feb. 8.
All that had to occur was to respond to my first email asking if the refund was in process.
Now they are threatening me because they feel I was impatient - they had the glengarry for 5 days before responding to a single email. (Oh - I forgot to add, they are practically demanding an apology for my impatience and my lack of respect for their courtesy)
If the vendor accepts PayPal, they should have the technical savvy to also refund through PayPal.
I will never do business again with anyone with an aol.com email address.....
This was not worth the $35 for the hat......

I had a non-ebay Paypal transaction go awry with a vendor who has subsequently been festooned on this forum for bad service to most customers, myself included. They refused to respond to any emails after my original order (I had contacted them before the order to make sure the item was in stock and they responded promptly at the same address several times before the sale), which went into "obtaining stock" status the day after I made it (they were obviously lying about their stock status). After four weeks of being ignored and not updated on the status of my order I cancelled it officially online, then contacted Paypal about filing a grievance, which after a couple weeks turned in my favor and I got my refund back through them. I guess the vendor never responded to their requests for information about the transaction either. I had already called my credit card, which Paypal uses to pay off my Paypal purchases, and they told me that if I did not get satisfaction from Paypal to call the credit card customer relations department directly and file a complaint with the credit card company against Paypal, so that they could also investigate it. They had no issues with potentially duking it out with Paypal in order to get me satisfaction in the end. Luckily they did not have to be involved since Paypal did a good job.
Once you get your refund and are satisfied with the outcome of the transaction I would look for opportunities to register a poor rating with the vendor on the many online search engines, as well as here on xmarks so the rest of your kilted brethren (and sisters) can benefit from your knowledge. I would ignore their demands for an apology---they have obviously forgotten the first rule of retail--the customer is always right.

This is why I don't use PayPal, at all, ever. If a merchant isn't easily contacted, doesn't seem helpful, smacks of being based in Berserkistan, or has images displayed on their website which were blatantly stolen from another similar website, I don't buy from them...whatever the price may be.

I have used PayPal for many years now, and have nothing but good experiences with them.. also.. if a vendor can receive funds from PayPal, they are very capable to send funds from PayPal... but... if you receive a payment.. they charge you a fee, if you choose to transfer the amount back into your bank.. nothing is charged if you leave it in your PayPal account..

Just reading the experiences you all have had and courses of action has kept me out of problems several times, now.
Thanks for sharing - it helps all of us.

The Glengerry hat, where was it purchased? I ordered a Caubeen from glengerryhats.com and had no response for over a week...just wanted to know the status of my order. I filed a Paypal complaint and, finally, got a refund through Paypal.
