Skye Highland Outfitters Custom Hose Query

    Greetings all,

I am curious if any of you have purchased custom diced, castellated, or tartan Argyll kilt hose from Skye Highland Outfitters out of California? If so, could you please be so kind to post any photos/personal review that you may have showing your custom hose? I am considering ordering several pairs from this company, yet would like to read customer reviews, if any, first. Thank you all for your assistance and time with this matter.

    Slainte mhath,

A cold day, last month, for a St. Andrew Society meeting! Was that a snowflake that just went down the back of my shirt?! HA!

I was also in on the XMTS tartan hose order: pix are here. The service was exemplary, and it was a lot of fun to "jones" together and rejoice as we got our packages.

The hose are gorgeous, as you can tell from the assorted pictures. The yarn is custom-dyed to match the tartan, and someone was so perfectionist that there were separate yarns dyed for the wool and the poly-viscose fabric. In the post I cite above, you'll see mine with the PV fabric, and then with the Edzell tartan since I (still) haven't made the matching kilt.

Josh told us up front that the feel of the socks is a bit "wooly," but with washing they will soften. Mine have only been washed about 3 times, and I believe the prickle-factor is diminishing. My feet love wool, so your mileage may vary; but some fabric softener or conditioning rinse may be indicated. That's the only caveat I can think to tell you. I believe that everyone who has reported in on Skye's hose has been more than pleased. I plan to be a repeat customer.

Thank you all for your replies, complete with photos and advice. I have never ordered custom hose from a retailer that makes them in the US, that is why I was a wee bit hesitant, but you all have made me seriously reconsider! I just want to ensure that I will be receiving a high-quality pair of hose, that will last a long while, and that are well made. I currently own two pairs of custom tartan hose in the Argyll pattern to match with my Macpherson red modern and red ancient kilts. They are both from Kinloch-Anderson, out of Leith, Scotland, and are truly magnificently made and look/feel great! The hose from Skye are considerably cheaper in cost and they have more of a variety of styles-those two things are what have attracted me to the company. After reviewing the photos thoroughly, and reading your comments, I am convinced that the hose I shall order from Skye in the near future, will be exactly what I want! There are so many options available from the Skye website, I can't wait to order! Thank you all again!

I can't get to their 'hose' page on their site. How much is a set and what's the typical turnaround.
