Reminds me of my work sojourn to Ardersier in May 1982. My company in Edinburgh needed volunteers to man surveying monitoring instruments during the launching of an oil-rig jacket from Mc Dermott's Yard. I spent my birthday up to my waist in seawater down a big hole on one occasion.

We were quartered in a small Nairn hotel. The only pub within reach was mobbed at night with roughty-toughty welders from the site, adorned with tattoos and facial scars, blowing part of their enormous wages on drink and the few local girls (who were uglier than the welders) who held court to the highest bidders. These girls must have thought themselves really beautiful to be so popular ! As long as everyone was happy - heh heh !!

It also reminds me that I spoke to some guy from Buckie while I was there - I've never heard anything like it before ! He spoke so fast, it was like a machine-gun "takkatakkatakkatakkatakkatakka".
