2010 Kentucky Scottish Weekend
KSW takes place at General Butler State Park in Carrollton, KY (see the XMarks map - if you zoom in, the marker is about where the main gate is to be found, just inside the entrance to the park). It's about a 40-minute drive from both the Louisville and Cincinnati areas. There's usually a British Car Show in conjunction with the event (there wasn't a couple of years ago due to scheduling conflicts).
The extended forecast looks clear but cool (mid-60's F). There may be some rain on Friday, so you may want to bring your overshoes as some areas get a little sloppy.
I'll be there leading the Louisville Pipe Band Grade 5 competition band. (I got elected Pipe Sergeant of the overall LPB back in November, and the Pipe Major is in the Grade 4 unit - long explanation involved with the difference.)
I found out yesterday we'll be the first band to compete, stepping off the line at about 1:30 PM (Eastern Daylight Time). Opening ceremonies - with massed bands - are about noon, maybe 12:30. The band competition award ceremony and closing massed bands is about 4:30-ish.

I have attended the last two years. I plan on doing so again this year weather permitting. Parking is in a grass field and it was very sloppy last year. Good luck in your competition.

I have an old friend who plays in Kentucky United Pipes & Drums from Lexington. I suppose they will be there, wearing their Kentucky tartan kilts.
Is it next weekend, May 8?

Whoops - should've noted the dates in my first post.
The KSW goes on just Saturday, May 8, 2010.
Kentucky United Pipes and Drums is expected to compete (EUSPBA Grade 4), and yes, they wear the Commonwealth of Kentucky tartan.
Thanks for the well-wishes Mike.

Reason: Noticed the KSW website shows it's only one day this year. Was 2 days in the past.

I attended the event today. It was a little cold being in the low 50's but at least the rain had moved out during the night. I thought the attendance was down from previous years. Included in the event is a British car show. Someone told me they had 118 cars registered but I only counted around 35. Despite that I had a good time. I have included a few photos out of the 118 I took. Those were mostly the cars.

Opening Ceremonies

As I was taking pictures of the cars this gentleman and his son walked by. Matching father/son kilts.

I took a lot of pictures but none of me. It is hard to take a picture of yourself without imposing on someone else to take it. I found myself in a reflection off of an MG's hub cap.

Sadly, I missed it this year. Wanted to load up on IrnBru and meet a few of the rabble. Wasn't able to fit it in the schedule (or budget) this weekend.
Hopefully I'll make it down to Glasgow, KY for the games.
