new (used) duty belt
Thanks to some help from the rabble on my thread about casual kilt belts, I now have a Don Hume, black leather, 2 1/4" wide, duty belt. These are apparently also called pistol belts, police belts, and Sam Browne belts... I think a Sam Browne is technically supposed to have a cross-body shoulder strap too, but people still seem to refer to the strapless belt by the same name.
I picked it up on eBay for $10 CAD and it came to $20 with shipping from the States. It's used but this is one solid belt and will probably outlive me. A little shoe polish to touch up some scuffs and it's ready for action.
There were a few moments of worry when I opened the package and tried it on because the prongs on the buckle were sticking out when I put it on. After a bit of googling and a trip to the Don Hume website, I realized the buckle was on backwards and now everything is fine.
I think this belt will work well for both casual and day wear... any other duty belt wearers out there?

Duty belt wearers
Yes, I too wear a duty belt or the Sam Brown. I wear it on duty. The strap you are referring to we call the "suicide strap". We wear it with a brass buckle but I used to wear a silver one.
If someone needs a 28"-30" belt give me a PM.

The last one I had (and wore for ten or more years) was retired and added to my collection of kilt belts. It works very nicely in a casual situation - never tried it with
dress wear - but if not too formal, it would probably do very nicely. Looks good the
way you are waering yours, and what a great price.

I had been looking on Ebay for the same thing.
I just never pulled the trigger.

I think they are great belts to wear with a kilt. I have a ex army brown Sam Browne belt with brass fittings which I often wear as a day belt. I think the belt you have in the pics suits the outfits you are wearing and would serve you well for any function other than formal

buckle debacle
FYI here is the pic from eBay with the buckle on backwards... silly eBay seller! This prevents the prongs from laying flat when the belt is in use:

And here is the picture from the Don Hume website with the correct position. Note that the prongs are facing the other way:

I have one identical to the one posted above in a size 32. If anyone can use it, PM me.

Duty Belt
Good on ya for coming up with the idea! I too had the same thought and bought a duty belt about 2 months ago from a local pawn shop. I think it is a do-it-all option for most of us.

That's not bad. I once read an ebay add for a kilt that said the front was nicely pleated, and the back was flat for more sitting comfort. Sheesh!!

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

I have both "ranger"-style leather and nylon duty belts that I use for casual kilt wear. I also have a leather belt with the fastex/side-clip buckle, but I haven't worn that with any kilts yet.
