Happy International Tartan Day!
On this day, 1 July, 1782, The Dress Act (Act of Proscription 1747) was repealed to permit the wearing of Highland Dress once more within Great Britain! Rejoice and wear your Tartan today!
It just so happens that on this day, 1 July, 1867, the Dominion of Canada was formed by a similar proclamation; not only that, but Her Majesty Elizabeth II is here in Ottawa for the national celebration; so, I have much to celebrate!
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

Good day to wear the Albannach. I would wear my MacLeod, but it's 9 yards and 16 oz, and it's already hot as the blazes of hell and damnation outside. So a 13 oz 5 yarder it is!

Thanks for the heads up, Fit2B. Just wish I had a kilt to wear!
And it would have looked rather strange if I had pitched up at work this afternoon wearing a tie, tartan or no. We generally don’t do that sort of thing!
I will definitely make a mental note to observe 1 July as one for Scottish dress.
By the way, congratulations on your royal visit.
The Queen has visited South Africa twice, but on neither occasion as Head of State. The first time was in 1947, when she was a princess, and the second time was 1995, when she came as Head of the Commonwealth.
But she was our Head of State from 1952 to ’61.

Mike

Thanks for the reminder! As windy as it is today I'll need my heaviest kilt pin to try to keep "the answer" unrevealed, and maybe a brick in my sporran so I don't blow away.

We don't celebrate tartan Day here in the UK, but I have just returned from a kilted day in Trafalgar Square in London with Alex (cessna152towser) to celebrate Canada Day.
