Tartan Aloha Shirt

There are lots of tartan shirts out there - they go well with a solid color kilt, or when you can't wear a kilt. The tartan shirt lets you express your clan affiliation.

But have yet to find a hot weather tartan shirt - like an aloha shirt in tartan. Why not? Would look great in most any tartan - especially the Hawaiian state tartan.

Guessing it has something to do with the difficulty of weaving the tartan fabric, or imprinting a tartan imprint on plain fabric, to create the tartan aloha shirt.

Bet it would sell in hot climates.

Excellent idea! The summer weather in South Africa is definitely conducive to that kind of clothing.
I’ll say nothing about the winter chill . . .

While not tartan, a LOOOONG time ago, Structure (Express - Men) had a series of shirts that looked like tattersall, windowpane, and madras that were of a very lightly woven material. It was almost mesh, but looked like regular fabric. The individual threads were large, but the weave allowed air to go right through it.

I still have four of them, but haven't seen their ilk for sale in nearly 15 years. I wish I could find some more of them, after being dragged from beach vacation to beach vacation for so many years they are starting to look their age.

Find the fabric, and any seamstress can easily make the shirt.

Finding the fabric may be the problem. . .as usual!

You might have to buy silk tartan, and then sweet-talk Sydnie7 into making the shirt. I remember silk shirts from not too long ago.

Scotweb can get almost any tartan in silk.

IIRC it's about 100 quid the yard, single width.

I'd be more inclined to some of the light cotton fabrics, I believe!

I had one that was a fashion tartan (I think) and that had tropical prints on it.
I'll look though my thousands upon thousands of pics to find the proof....
