Pin Backs?

I've made some kilt pins, but am having trouble finding the metal "backing" parts that are longer than 1 1/2 inches. Has anyone found a place that sells these?

You might try a crafts store such as Hobby Lobby. Any store that carries jewelry findings should have them.

Another alternative is to use the pushpin type such as those used for tie pins. I have used two or three of them on large kilt pins that I have made.

I am strongly considering using metal strips and magnets versus traditional pin backs or even pins/clutches. See here...

Rare earth magnets, superglue and metal strips work fine for some of my kilt pins. The only problem I have had with them is proximity.... have to watch getting in and out of the truck, standing too close to the soda vending machine, shopping carts at the market, etc.

I've tried rare earth magnets without success. I would not recommend them.

I've tried magnets. I found my kilt became very attracted to my fridge.

These would also be ok for flying ! and ok with security
