    I did it again

Today, walking in to work...fellow comes up behind me and asks...

"Why are you wearing athletic socks with that nice kilt?"

Seriously. He said that to me.

    So I responded.

    "To annoy jerks like you."

Don't cross me before I've had my coffee.

The first day I wore my kilt out I had no hose. So I ended up wearing my knee high Thor MX socks. They matched my kilt but no one said anything about, even the scottish barkeep that I ran into at lunch.

    I somewhat over-simplified that discussion.

I was walking in to work from the parking garage. This guy walks up behind me and says..."nice kilt, it's all wrong, though." So I asked him why it was all wrong. He said that it was pleated wrong. (I am wearing my California Tartan box pleat, today)

I told him that it was box pleated and gave him the thumbnail sketch of Mac Newsomes box pleat sermon, civilian kilts after the repeal of proscription and all that. He said , and I repeat.... "That's just stupid". Those were his exact words.

That was when he commented about the socks.

This whole exchange is only notable because it's the first negative exchange I've had in well over a year, probably a year and a half. Sheesh.

To outweigh it, I can't tell you the number of nice comments, even the from the nice Chinese ladies in the laboratories that tell me, very sincerely, that they like my skirt.

Good response, Alan. It was perfectly apt, especially given the additional background you gave.

I get that sometimes. Locals whose English doesn't yet include quite the correct adjectives... Although being an educator, when they call me (or my kilt) "pretty" I tell them that when describing men, "handsome" is somewhat preferable. (But then again, for every time I've done that, twice as many times I've just smiled politely and said "thank you")...

After hearing the full story, I am glad we are not also reading about you being the guest of some metro facility for assault. It takes some major huevos to be that rude...and a sever lack of judgment.

Oh, I have no problem with people having the right to think what they want. I also don't have a problem with people having the right to say what they want, as long as it doesn't endanger someone else....you know, crying "fire!!" in the movie theatre when there isn't one.

But, see....this means that I have the right to say what I want, as well.

so I did. BTW, I didn't actually use the word "jerk". The term I used was a two-word colloquialism. The two words start with "f" and "a". But this is a family-friendly forum, so we'll just leave it at that.

That seems to be common in our society... I never did understand how becoming educated is "just stupid..." I've been told that before, myself. Try to explain to someone that men actually can acceptably wear something other than pants, explain the history and tradition... and get the same response. I once actually said to someone "Well, I'll make sure to tell the entire world's Celtic population that we're all completely wrong about our history and traditions- all on the word of one delivery driver."
"Two things are infinite- the universe, and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." Albert Einstein.
