    Horse hair sporran DIY (hopefully)

I have got it in my mind that I want to make a horse hair sporran. I know it is not an easy project. I have all of the steps figured out in my head and some on paper, plus I have my grandfather's for hands-on refernece. Now I just need a good source for the hair. I also have the question of how much hair, poundage-wise, it takes to make one.

I read this a couple of months ago, but I did not see where Josh said how much. I just read it again, and there it is...1/2#, 22-26" blunt cut. I don't know how I missed it. Thanks for the link. Wish me luck.

One more thing. Thanks Josh for the effort in putting the step by step together. It is a real inspiration.

No problem at all. Sporrans are personal to one's taste, and I think everyone should make one for themselves. Its not hard, but it is time consuming and somewhat tedious. Just like making a kilt. You will never feel a better satisfaction!

I find that WAGMAN PRIMUS is the best source for horse hair. They seem to supply almost everyone that sells it in the US and you can order directly from them-COOL!!!

Thanks. I checked them out and their prices great.

Side note: I got the leather today. Just need to order the hair and I'll be ready to start.

As for the horse hair, I am wanting something a little different than the normal black on white or white on black or black on salt/pepper brown. I am thinking about black tassels on cinnemon/light brown. Opinions? I've never seen this myself
