    Question Kilted playtrons social group

    Good day all,

There are a few of us that wear kilts to Ren Fairs.

Looking to setup a Ren Fair/Playtron Social Group. I contacted a couple people who are interested.

    Any one else interested?

If so we will need an Avatar...

    Thumbs up

    Well obviously I'm in!

Just to be clear, "Playtrons" are Patrons of renaissance faires who dress in costume, or garb, even though they aren't a cast member of the faire.
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

I mostly go to see the Ren-art, but last time I went to Renfair, I tried out the pirate shirt and kilt look, so I have dabbled... I'll consider it.

just curious, Zardoz, what is the pirate population at the Texas Renfairs? It seems like there were some over here, but I got the impression most playtrons were in fairy tale/fantasy garb, or something along those lines, going by what I was told.

A guy with a seven foot sword and a tiny pink umbrella, and a lady with butterfly wings come to mind.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Your impression is correct for the most part. Although there are many playtrons who's garb is very period accurate, most are more 'historical fantasy' based.
As to the Pirates, we have quite a few at the Texas Renaissance Festival, more than most other Texas faires, TRF even has a pirate themed weekend.

Ok I HAVE to admit, I'm a rennie voyeur. I became introduced to Renn Faire's through competing in Heavy Athletics. In Michigan and Ohio the faires typically have a 'Highland Weekend' and have us caber throwers out for fun. I am amazed everytime I go! Best people watching EVER! And best venue to compete in as far as crowd participation. The crowds and renn faires are very eager to engage with us and have some fun. I also have to admit, there are things that I just don't 'get' at the faires, but no bother, it's all fun--plus, as I like to say, the folks that go there are 'my kind of strange'.

Best of luck to you all with your new social group! Hope you don't mind if I pop in every once in awhile and ask some questions. And please, I mean nothing disparaging at all--I'm pleasingly fascinated.

Count me in too! I haven't gotten to TRF as much as I'd like to lately, thanks to grad school, but I try to go in garb or kilted when I do...
