What would a traditional Kilted Battle Dress Uniform in our day look like?

This may need to be moved though I thought this was a fine place to start it.

An exercise in “highland wear” imagination.

Most folks here have what seems to be a good sense of vision and imagination. For some this involves more traditional themes for others more contemporary themes and some bring a more historical vision.

Just about all of us are aware of the Highland military culture in one form or another and many of us have a kind of imaginative vision of that.

I am interested in what folks would envision as a kilted Battle Dress Uniform/No.5/No.8/Utility Uniform what have you.

I’m asking about a uniform for combat (imaginatively and not attempting a purely practical uniform required in true combat situations) that would be in the tradition of say the Highland Regiments of WWI. Could be a Canadian or Scottish or Aussie or NZ or US… the country of your choosing and the Regiment of your own design or an established one.

    The basic limits are:
Kilt of some form, in a Battle Dress Uniform.

My interest is around the details of course.
Kilt apron? Colour or Camo etc?
Head cover, Bonnet, Lid etc (when not in helmet) Hackle? Colour?
Jacket Cut? Cuttaway? 1902 variety? BDU, ACU etc…?
    Hose? Gaters? Boots?
    Overall Camo?
Belt Sporran? Klt Apron pocket? Kilt w/Pockets?
    Belt, Stable belt, rig etc?

    Theatre?
    Terrian?
    Tartan?
    Name?

Recently saw a scifi movie where they were in the future and had their own special camouflage and BDUs and that got me to thinking. So I was eager to hear from your visions.

I look forward to your uniforms.

    Peace,
    justin

I'm guessing that since this is a "what-if" uniform question, as opposed to one dealing with civilian attire, it might be better placed in either the Modern or Historical forums; either that or perhaps it's time to start a new forum dedicated specifically to "Military & Band Uniforms".

    I'll bite...

Kilt: tartan fabric in desert camo colors, made from balistic kevlar
    boots: 8" desert sand
hose: wavy desert camo diced [lines not clearly defined]
Waistcoat: balistic kevlar with plate inserts also in desert camo colors
    shirt: synthetic, light weight
    Helmet: kevlar pith helmet

    Hows that for a start?

    Not kevlar, I hope...

I suspect the kilt would be made of whatever NyCot blend they are using now for BDUs, maybe brushed or otherwise peached on the inside, with stitched pleats and creases. And a "secret" under-apron flat pocket. Make it in a "night camouflage" check. I like the hose and boots above. Make the hose long enough to unroll over your knees in prolonged crawling situations.

I expect the belt could be the current standard issue web pistol belt. Blouse/tunic would be a modified version of the Ike jacket, in a dirt color, maybe with a few additional pockets and velcro closures. Alternatively, a slightly shortened M-65 jacket, with sporran cutaway.

NO waistcoat, or a polyester fleece zippered one.

Cotton fabric "Sherlock Holmes" fore and aft headgear, representing a blend of the traditional deerstalker and a boonie hat, in the same color as the tunic.

Figure, if we wanted to be strictly practical, many soldiers would be wearing lycra/kevlar bodystockings, or something based more on them than on shirts and trousers. If we aren't going that way ( and I don't think we should) then the alternative is a mix of the traditional and the more or less practical.

If you wanted to be mean (and practical) you could make the blouse with big red splotches, to fool the enemy into thinking he had already made a hit.

    A try at it

    OK,

Kilt, 6ish yards MoD in ARMY tartan though the colours are muted to a more arid/forest/mountain set... similar to the Multicam colours.

    Kilt Apron in multicam.

Bonnet/Lid: Khaki Green Balmorals, (Not ToS)

Jacket: a kind of cutaway ACU

Hose: Argyle pattern in the muted Army/Multicam colours

    Boots: Per Military specs

    BA: per Mil Specs

Sporran: Something like the Blackhawk Tactical handbag... worn as a sporran when needed, like incorporating the gas masks bags innovation back when.

    something like that.

    peace,
    justin

It would have to have some way to split it for when you needed to put on MOPP gear.
