New Celtic Festival near Austin Texas
The first Sherwood Forest Celtic Festival and Highland Games will coming up on September 24-25th, 2011, they will be held at the Sherwood Forest renfaire grounds near McDade Texas.
This will be a non-renfaire event celebrating Celtic history and cultures, with a focus on music and athletics.
There will be plenty of traditional and modern music from the likes of Clandestine, the Blaggards, Abby Green, and Sarah Dinan, to name a few.
The planned comps so far include Caber Toss, Hammer Throw, Weight Over Bar, Stone Put, Maide Leisg, and Bagpipe Competitions.
They are looking for clans and organizations that focus on Celtic history as well, so if you want to participate check the website and let them know.

Awesome! I didn't manage to make it to the Sherwood Forest Faire, but I'll definitely have to make the trip for a Celtic festival.
It's still gonna be HOT in September, though...

I'll be there representing Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie. It looks like several other clans will have tents also. One of the organizers ask me to tell everyone that there will be NO CHARGE for clan tents/representation.
This will be my first celtic festival/highland games. I hope there will be lots of visitors and a good time for all.
Tobus, Zardoz and everyone else, please come by the Clan Maclaine tent and say "Hi".
Somebody ought to.

I'll be there with the Clan Keith tent. We're certainly hoping for a good showing since a couple of the events in Texas were canceled this year.

Sherwood Forest Faire had 31 folks participate in the Annual Fayette County Fair parade in LaGrange Saturday, (9/3) and the response was very good. I think there will be a good turnout for the Celtic festival and next years ren-faire. And yes we marched in a parade, in faire garb, in 100 degree temps!
It's a shame when you loan your camera to somebody and they don't get you in the picture!

Giving this thread a bump since the event is coming up in less that 2 weeks, (9/24-25).
We'll be out Saturday, and I hope to see plenty of XMarkers there.

I was wondering today if they were going to be effected by the fires up that way...
I'm thinking that if we don't get some rain, TX RennFest is going to be smokier than usual!

Well, to was a pretty close thing, but the Sherwood faire grounds have been untouched by the very nearby fires. The fires where close enough at one point that some folks working on their booths and such were evacuated. But I've heard this week that power has been restored to the site, and the water quality has been checked and cleared. It's good to go!
Now if we could just get a couple days of rain!

I'll be there hosting for the Clan MacIntyre Asociation. Why, it's just next weekend! BTW, clan conveners are required to bring a fire extinguisher (no joke).

Well, it looks like the weather is gonna be pretty nice for the Festival, at least not so damn hot anyway!
The weekend’s Entertainment Schedule is up on the Sherwood website, and discounted tickets are still avalible.

Looking forward to seeing all the Austin area XMarkers!
