While I can see and support removing the "tainted blood" portion, I cant see any reason for restoring previous titles... that would likely be a dangerous precedent...

If the honour was bestowed by the monarch for services rendered, it would be at the discretion of the monarch to remove those honours... In the case of treason, I cant see any justification for restoring them... They are afterall privelidges not rights

This is quite correct... however, a number of forfeited titles were restored in the 18th century, certainly within the living memory of those who had suppressed the Scottish rebellion. For whatever reason this was done, it did set the precedent. What seems to have been overlooked is the fact the the attainders have already been lifted by judicial decision, given the Royal ascent, so in my opinion no act of parliament is necessary.

With the troubled and often muddled history of the English throne plus the manner in which the James was removed from the throne, I would hardly refer to the Jacobites as treasonous. There have been certain accessions to various peoples who have been mistreated throughout history, so why would not the Jacobites be given such treatment. Justice after all is not defined as "privelidges" but as equitableness or moral rightness.

Treason would generally be an act against the ruling government or sovereign... A case of the winner writing the history books...

I have a feeling this discussion may be about to slide into political arguments though if we dont watch out...
