    Irish Propaganda Posters?

I thought the rabble might find these interesting, especially the second:

    Lifted from here: http://picasaweb.google.com/rsees5/Galway#

If a mod knows how to resize them and would like to do so, please feel free. I didn't realize they were so ginormous!

It's nice to see Wales (more or less) properly depicted, and of course there's the usual "slight error" in the arms of Ireland; the field should be blue, not green...

Good catch. I didn't even pick up on the fact that the escutcheon of Wales was erroneous, just so happy to see it in the first place, I guess...

I think the green were the "colonial" colors.

Ireland was never a colony. That said, green has been popularly associated for centuries with Ireland and the Irish people. I rather doubt the War Department was interested in "heraldic niceties" when it put together that recruiting poster, rather it wanted to "fill boots and fight the Hun" any way it could.

Burly, thanks so much for posting these. I'd never seen anything like them. Loved them so much I had to do a search on it and found the first one on ebay (my favorite of the two), which is now on it's way to be framed and hung on the wall.

Yeah... I have several books on wartime propaganda and 20th century posters at home so I've seen them before but the whole subject is interesting to me. Cheers for posting those.
