M.O.D. "Culloden" sporran cantle available
Have just been browsing on the net and came across a MOD brass functioning cantle and an original issue bag for GBP85.00
The firm is www.wdmilitaria.co.uk and it is in the uniforms and clothing section, page 4.
The cantle is a Mkll model with the push down release, however the bag is from a Mkl cantle. The difference being that the Mkl bags were held to the cantle with five studs on each face and the Mkll with four studs on each face
Just thought I’d let folks know about it, if any ones interested, as I have seen very much the same go for GBP120.00 plus on Ebay

Have to be quick in this business, they are in great demand and obviously someone else was looking at the same time I was.

Too right. It said "Add to cart", when I started to look at the pictures. Went back to the main ad and it was "SOLD". If only I had read your post five minutes earlier!

Does anyone have any idea what the brass button on the front was/is for? I thought badge at first, but that is not the way the army used to secure badges - with just one pin/fixing. So now I am stumped.

These things need to be bought on sight when you find them! I consider myself lucky to have two.
One thing to keep in mind -- the bag if fastened by means of snaps. When I had Ferguson Britt construct bags for my MoD cantles, I had him continue to use the snap fastening. In this way the bag is removable and I could theoretically have him craft different bags for these same cantles later on down the road.
So if you can get your hands on one, you could potentially have a variety of sporran options.
One other note, Manacraft in Edinburgh occasionally has sporrans available with old MOD cantles (and newly crafted leather bags). They don't have an online shop so to speak, but it would be worth an email or phone call if anyone is interested.

I need one of these cantles (or several) badly!!! Just like the elusive, vintage Scottish Wildcat full-mask sporran, I'll keep searching.
Cheers,

Hello lads. There is a gent in Ontario I met at Fort George last year, Robin he sells MOD cantles without the clips. I think his price was 25.00 usd not including shipping. I bought 3. One for reenacting the other 2 I'm making matching father and son pair out of elk skin.
