Are you not a Rugby man, Jock?
I grew up just up the road from Hutchesons Auldhouse and never wanted to get into the sectarian football nonsense (My dad had always supported Third Lanark but when they closed he went on to Rangers) so I got dead into Rugby growing up. I was even invited to play with a local team next year if I can get into shape and make them proud, so to speak.
I'm eagerly looking forward to game results for the world cup and also watching the local rugby teams playing now that I've found some.

Ahhh Rugby Union, what a game! Hung my boots up in 2000 after nearly 30 years of playing. I miss it still.

Sadly Rugby Union changed for the worse when it ceased being an amateur game and now I have no interest in it whatsoever.

I definitely prefer smaller local team play and playing rather than watching, but I do love love the national games, too. Not quite such a fan of the... professional games.

I have to say I agree Jock. Professionalisation was not good for Rugby Union in Scotland. I am originally from the West of Scotland and played as a woefully bad wing three-quarters at school there. Subsequently I went on to live in Hawick/Upper Teviotdale, although my maternal grandfather was originally from Galashiels, and therefore I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Gala RFC. Professional sides based on the old Districts are not the same, and don't command the support of those who followed the old amateur clubs. I still support Scotland (and the British and Irish Lions on tour).

I'd agree with that. i basically gave up watching it after that. Had to give up playing it due to a 10th concussion. Plus my piping was getting left behind.
But Go the All Blacks and the Celtic nations... Wales should have won

There's a great line in Invictus where one of Mandela's bodyguards says "Football is a gentleman's game played by hooligans, while rugby is a hooligan's game played by gentlemen."
GO BOKKE! GO BOKKE!
