7yds of 60" weathered black watch

Well just received 7 yds of 60" weathered black watch fabric... As far as i can tell weight wise it's probably 9oz and it's wool... Was bought about 15 years ago in Aberdeen.

So obviously it's not destined for a formal kilt, but I was thinking it might make a couple of summet casual kilts, suggestions?

just go ahead and make the kilt as you would for a heavier weight.
It will turn out nice and besides wrinkling easier than a heavier kilt, if you are hand sewing; will be easier in some aspects. Less bunch to work with.
Maybe a vest or hat with leftovers?

Why not save enough for a laird's plaid? I fear the 9 oz is pretty light for a kilt--but what do I know--but it would probably be great for a plaid on a cool day.

It was originally bought for a great kilt... But times and tastes change...

With some of the temps being in the 100+ range recently in MO 9oz might have been ideal... As long as i avoid the wind...

I'm not sure i'm up to the task of making a kilt though... So might have to find someone who can knock me one up cheaply...

How about making a kilt and a plaid to wear with it?

Plaids are useful on blustery days.

Pretty sure Lochcarron is the only mill that weaves a light-weight Black Watch Weathered tartan, so that would make it from their 10 oz. "Reiver" line.

It would make an acceptable full-yardage (8 yd.) kilt, but is really too light for a reduced yardage "casual" kilt....
