    waistcoat pattern needed

I'm absolutely in love with this vest...

    http://www.orvis.com/store/product.aspx?pf_id=2L72

They don't make it to fit my prodigious frame. I've also spent money for my wife to have a nice sewing machine.

I can't find a pattern that is anywhere near this vest.

This vest would not be particularly difficult to copy using a standard vest pattern and simply extending the fronts up to create the collar and lapels

If your wife is not confident in altering a standard pattern you may find a more exact match in the costume sections of the major pattern manufacturers. Look for three piece suits as well as just vests as this style of vest for wearing with a suit has been popular on and off for many years

    Nice vest!

I'm sure your wife won't mind you using the new sewing machine - I bet she'd even help if you ask. Look for a jacket pattern that has the collar you want and see if the shoulders are in the right location without sleeves. If not (and it's not likely they will be) simply use a vest pattern for that part of the garment - basically, overlay the two different patterns, making them fit together for the different parts of the vest.

Let us know how you make out with this.

Great looking vest. I also like the washed tweed dress vest. I just wish it came in a straight rather than pointed bottom hem. Please be sure to post photos of your finished vest!

You might check out vest patterns on these websites. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it'd be a simple matter to change the shawl collar on the pattern to a notched lapel collar, and just add a pair of pockets to the front.

    There is also this pattern:

    http://www.lafnmoon.com/frock_coat.html

I have the pattern, but haven't finished making the vest (started it years ago, and it's in my pile of "finish someday" stuff).

Also, I recommend this site to check pattern reviews:

    Re: waistcoat pattern needed

I know that I am coming in late.

There are patterns for a man's vests with a collar at most sewing centers. One example is:

    http://www.simplicity.com/p-2185-boy...-and-ties.aspx

I believe that most of these patterns go to a size of 52 inches. I have the problem of being larger than 52 and am working at adjusting my pattern upward.

Do you have pictures of you new vest?

    It's not.

Chris was perfectly correct in saying that you should look for a jacket pattern with the collar you want and alter the sleeve/armhole to get the vest pattern.

You'll find with all the vest patterns that have been linked that the collar is either not notched, or if it's notched it is only a 'laid on' collar. This means that it only is laid on the front of the garment and not the back. You won't achieve the stand collar like the Orvis vest in any of the patterns linked.

    I would suggest starting with:
    http://www.folkwear.com/130.html

I can't find a good line drawing of the shirt, but it looks like the collar is right.
Do a trial with heavy fabric, shape the hem, alter the armhole. For the armhole you may need to adjust where the shoulder ends, and depending on how you are going to wear the vest, either make the armhole opening smaller by lifting the side seams, or make the armhole bigger by dropping the side seams.
Further, if you go with a jacket, you'll find you might need to go a size smaller. For a shirt pattern, you'll need to go smaller if it's loose fitting. Don't go by size of the pattern, ALWAYS compare the stated measurements with your own before choosing a size.

    EDIT;
wow. first post is from September. You probably already have the vest made. Oh well, better late than never!
