I escorted the 4 girls in our folk band to Glastonbury on Saturday. They were wanting to go to the many little quirky shops there to look for some tops to wear on stage. We first all met up down town early, which was a sea of red rugby shirts. We watched the rugby in one of the pubs alongside the Milllenium Stadium (which they had opened and issued free tickets to watch Wales play on the big screens). There were 65,000 in there and the overflow were in all the pubs throughout the city. It was an absolutely fab atmosphere, although Wales were very unlucky and are now in the playoff against Australia this coming fri for the 3rd and 4th places in the world rankings. I digress ... after the match we then took the train and bus to Glast.
I dont normally get comments about my cilt, but if positive comments you like, then go to Glastonbury. I had numerous. The most fascinating was from a middle age hippyish couple, when the lady just nodded and said, "thats one rhythm". As I was waiting outside another shop the girls were in, this retired lady walked passed with her shopping and just looked and said "Its good to see a cilt/kilt being worn". Then she was gone. I wont bore you with the other comments, but there were several more.
When the girls found the fourth shop, I had had enough of this shopping business and took off to this fab old pub to get some drinks in and claim a table. I bought a pint of "Doomsbar".. very very nice.
Anyhow, the only other interesting comment came from one of the girls in the band. When they arrived at the pub we ordered some food. The conversation was amongst themeselves about tops to wear on stage. They had already decided that they are having made some long tartan highwayman coats with upright collars.
I asked what am I supposed to wear if you going to all this trouble. My wifes best friend simply said "You are wearing your cilt because its a way of life to you, and that cant change".
All in all, there were some interesting comments in Glastonbury.

That sounds almost mystical: the Way of the Cilt...

You are a brave man Derek, going shopping with four girls, only if for a short time. Your are my hero I can understand the need for a refreshment.
Sounds like you had a grand time in Glastonbury and as for the Rugby, although I hosted the scarf in Oz, I'll have to be against you for the match
Cheers
