    full mask sporran?

A little over four decades ago while out bird hunting I shot a Bob-cat. As a struggling student all I could afford was the $7 to have the pelt tanned. I found it recently and it is still in pristine condition (to my eye anyway). Can this be made into a good sporran, or as some have told me is it to late to use it for anything as the hair will simply fall out?

Talk to turpin. He's the man I'm going to when it's time to pull the trigger on my full mask badger sporran; he does a fantastic job of making them tastefully.

I made this for an x-marker in Canada

Aye! Now that's just about "purrfect"! But would the age of pelt (45 yrs) pose any problems?

I think that's a bobcat. Not exactly domestic! I'd probably pay good money to see someone try to pet one, lol.

I'd be worried about people taking great offense to full mask sporrans, especially ones that look like that. Maybe it depends on which part of the country you are from but not everyone is too appreciative of someone having a dead animal head for a sporran.

I know for certain my wife would never dance with me with that sort of sporran and I think many ladies would feel the same.
I suppose it depends on the location and regional culture. Where I live, nobody bats an eye at such things. It is common to see deer heads mounted on walls, especially at restaurants.

I have two coyote pelts and a grey fox pelt that I've been itching to try full-mask sporrans with. I just haven't done it because of (1) cost and (2) other projects keep pushing their way to the front of my "want" list.

But to answer the original question, I suppose it really depends on what kind of shape the pelt is in and how well the taxidermist did his job. It might be OK as a decorative sporran, but if you are constantly opening the flap and closing it, it will cause it to wear out more quickly and have the fur come out.

that's NOT a domestic cat, it's one of the American wild cats. It looks like a Lynx, but I'm not taxonomically inclined. I'm sure Turpin will jump in and correct me.
