    Black Isle

I wore my lovely new Black Isle tank to the office a little while back and ran into a colleague who wanted a picture, so I actually have photo of this one - showing the pleats, even.

John/Slohairt had long ago joked that a black-on-black shadow tartan such as this would make the perfect "Mennonite" kilt - yes, that's my ethnic background, not Scottish. And now that it looks as though I may soon be moving to Lille, France, to run a new University of Alberta program there, the Black Isle - "Lille noir" - seemed a really fine choice!

Regardless, it is a lovely kilt. John as always has done a very fine job.

I love my Black Isle tank, my second kilt, my go to kilt on so many occasions. Aaaah, the memories. Great choice. Great look.

That is soooooo, nice. I have a black isle in PV and really like it. I wear it quite a bit. Some day, perhaps one in wool.

I like it! Is there a pattern on it? If so, it is clearly very dark. I have a solid black kilt on my wishlist. Great pleat shot.

It's probably Marton Mills black on black tartan. I have a Stillwater version (my first kilt) and it's really effective in the light. Yes, John does excellent work he made my 8yd Official Ontario.

Looks fantastic. I have a swatch of that tartan sitting on my desk - think it is time to put the order in

    Re: Black Isle

Very nice kilt, as I am further back in the queue I heard this is a very challenging material to sew as the sett is discernible from a distance but hard to see up close. Knowing John is so meticulous I am sure it lines up perfect.

    Enjoy in good health.
