    Kilt Flashs pattern

Just got my new kilt (well a month ago) from Scotweb. They were kind enough to provide a set of Kilt Flashs. Interesting though they only have the horizontal whitish stripe, and none of the Dark Green of the MacGregor tartan. I would have thought since they are long and skinny, they'd have went with the veritical green stripe... Any thoughts? Not that it really matters, just wondered if there were a specific reason ...

I suspect that the kilt maker just worked with the bits of cloth that were left after the kilt was made. I don't think there is any significance attached to it, one way or another. They are what they are, nothing more.

    Re: Kilt Flashs pattern

Personally, I'd do away with the tartan kilt flashes. It isn't necessary to match everything whilst wearing Highland attire - especially for Highland day attire. I'd either purchase simple, wool traditional garter ties, or woven flashes with elastic garters - red seems to be a good colour to begin with. I have received tartan kilt flashes before with a previous kilt order, and I simply through them out - almost immediately. Just my opinion here mate, do what you wish!

    Cheers,

Sounds like a plan mate! I certainly wasn't attempting to tell you what to do, and I certainly hope you didn't take it that way. My previous post was simply my honest opinion, but with that being said, I think I am safe in saying that it is indeed a shared opinion by many others on the forum.

    Happy Christmas and Hogmanay!

Personally, I like matching flashes. Don't worry about them not showing all the pattern colors. No one will inspect them closely.ith:

    Re: Kilt Flashs pattern

I switched to the self tie garters some years ago. I find them more comfortable, and prefer the look to that of the tartan flashes.

Tartan flashes make an excellent sample swatch. Take a flash with you when purchasing ties, shirts, sweaters, etc. for wear with your kilt. Some colors/patterns just shouldn't be worn with some tartans. Better to find out in the store than to take it home and discover you are going to have to make another trip to the store to return the item.

I think that the horizontal pattern brings a different view to the kilt colours. Like them. I personally make my own.
