    Help family Tartan search

My great Grandfather came from Scotland in the 1850's, he lived and his family lived in Cruden Bay, ( around Slains Castle), Peterhead and Aberdeen. I have not been able to locate a clan connection with our family name " Mutch". I have found that Sir Walter Scott mentions the name in " lady of the Lake" Mutch the miller's son and the brothers Scathelock and Scarlet were archers of the band of Robin Hood. So I do not mind, being of thieving Highlander, as long as I know our family history. I would just like to have a kilt that I could associate with and our family. I could go with the Aberdeen District, but does anyone have any other suggestions or places to look? thank you just lost in history

"Tartan For Me!" book suggests those who bear Mutch surname should wear the Stirling District tartan.

There is a Banff and Buchan district tartan available. and I believe Peterhead is part of the Buchan area. Nice looking tartan too, so you might want to consider it. Good luck with your hunt.

    Have you tried this:

    http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

    Leave everything blank except for:

Last or Family Name - Mutch

    Life Event - All

    Country or Region - Scotland

I found 230 entries, most from the Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire area and at least two from Cruden.

    Good hunting!

    Regards

    Chas

Thanks everyone, Looks like I have some option. I was telling a friend about this and he sent me this email.

    DEAR ABBY:
'I have always wanted to have my family history traced, but I can't
afford to spend a lot of money to do it. Any suggestions?'

"Scots Kith & Kin", rev. 2nd ed lists the name, Mutch, as occurring in Stirlingshire in the 16th century, but does not list a clan affiliation.
