Re: Whisky Galore
I saw the title of this thread and immediately assumed it was about a female character in a James Bond movie.

That character was "Pussy Galore" played by Honor Blackman![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Whisky Galore
And "Pussy" had no sister "Whisky?" Pity.

Re: Whisky Galore
This film is fun to watch (especially with a dram or two of malt), but not a great representation of the book - a bit too simplified and slapstick for me. Almost all books are better than their corresponding movies, but in this case the book is MUCH better than the movie, eg the telling of the relationship between George Campbell and his domineering mother is "literature". ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
By the way, the author of "Whisky Galore", Compton MacKenzie, makes a cameo appearance in the film as Captain Buncher of the s.s. Cabinet Minister.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Re: Whisky Galore
I have this movie on VHS, but I have the TV series, "Monarch of the Glen," also based on a Compton MacK story, on dvd.

I just sat here and watched the movie ... I loved! Now I'll be finding the book to further explore the story. Thanks for the introduction!

Let us know how you like the book. It can be found in a trilogy of Compton MacKenzie novels entitled "The Highland Omnibus" that includes "The Monarch of the Glen", "Whisky Galore", and "The Rival Monster". They are all a lot of fun.
