Not sure theVelcro that hooks the cargo pockets to the kilt would hold under stress andweight
And 1 ¾”belt loops are NOT large.
If I wasgonna wear a kilt like that for those reasons I’d go for a Utilikilt SurvivorII or an RKilts leather.
Would paymore – but it would hold up.
Just can’tsee a $60 retail kilt holding up long under tactical stress.

Don't think of this as a "kilt." Think of it as typical 5.11 shorts with the fabric between the legs removed. That puts $60 right in the typical 5.11 price range, and the construction details exactly inline with all other 5.11 gear. 5.11's pants range in price from $50 to $75, depending on shorts or full length, cotton or rip-stop, and which pocket designs they incorporate.

Well Ron, this is from the people that bring you 'tactical shorts' (Dickies made from rip-stop with some webbing and velcro stuck on) for around the same price point. I'm sure they can stand up to the tactical stress the average gunshop commando will put them through.

Sorry to be late to this and revive an older thread, but I felt the need to chime in. I wear 5.11 pants, either long or shorts every day as part of my "work" uniform. My experience with them has been very favorable since the early days of Royal Robbins climbing pants where they originated and were later bought by 5.11. They are usually well made, sturdy and resist stains to a remarkable degree. Are they perfect? nope but what in life is. I signed up for a 5.11 kilt myself partly based on my starting grooving kilt wearing combined with my familiarity with their clothing. your mileage may of course, vary.

That's exactly my experience with 5.11 - well made, very comfortable, and as rugged as one might reasonably expect. I may be wrong, but I'm expecting pretty good quality in the TDK, in part because this is not a regular product for 5.11. They "launched" the TDK as an April Fool's joke, and only decided to actually offer the product because of the high level of response that they received. By the point where they decided that they needed to produce the product to keep a lot of customers from being unhappy, they'd already announced a price and would have created a lot of irritation if they tried to raise it. Thus, I suspect that the TDK is being sold at or very near the cost of production, as a way to keep customers happy and as a marketing / PR program, rather than as a product that 5.11 expects to make money from.

Our local uniform shop just had their "5.11 Days" promotion (discounts on 5.11 products, giveaways, barbeque at lunchtime, etc.) I told the 5.11 rep that I was eagerly waiting for my TDK. He told me they where blown away by the response. They expected possibly a few hundred orders and ended up with something like 3,800! He also confirmed what some of you suggest, that their "April fools joke" ended up being on them and they're selling these (a one-time deal as I understand it) at about their cost to avoid having 3,800 unhappy customers.

He also promised to hook me up with some free gear if I wear my TDK to next year's "5.11 Days" sale!
