    D&G Trip in August

Not sure where to post this, may be we should have a travel section?

We're going to Newton Stewart in D&G in August and I'm after some advice on wear to go - where's good to eat, what's good to do, and also are there any good local shops to buy kilt stuff?

And yes, , pics will follow after the trip.

There is the Bladnoch distillery just down the road at Wigtown.

Bladnoch Distillery, Bladnoch, Wigtown. Scotland. DG8 9AB.
    Visitor Centre: (01988) 402605 Distillery: (01988) 402235.

There is a heap of Robert Burns stuff in Dumfries itself which is well worth a shufftie. (Burns Centre and Museum, Burns house, The Globe, Burns mausoleum, Burns statue etc.) The Globe Inn is not only historically fascinating it's a nice place to have a pint too.

If you are in Dumfries, tie in with Robertson (Pour1Malt on here) for the definitive D&G experience (some crackin' pubs as well as some other points of interest... ). PM him through this site or look up 'Ferintosh Guest House' on't t'interweb. If you like Malts he is a good man to get to know. It's worth a night stop over so you can fully enjoy the ambience, if you know what I mean...

The Cavens is also a fine evening eatery in the town.

Hope you have a lovely time. I'm up there now and then meeself (see previous picture threads). Delightful area, 'specially if the weather's nice.

John beat me to it. I was about to recommend you contact Robertson (Pour1Malt).
Ferintosh Guest House is cheap and cheerful and they serve delicious Scottish breakfasts.
If you are into Scottish history, Caerlaverock Castle, Threave Castle, Sweetheart Abbey and several other interesting sites are within a short drive of Dumfries.

Don't worry, EVERY time we talk about the trip, my eldest says "Dad, don't forget to pack your kilt"...

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

A beautiful area and good tips from the guys. Ferintosh is doubleplusgood place to stay. Solway coast, Hadrian's Wall also reachable.
