Cool White soccer socks for summer kilt wearing

    Hi all,

Our summers in Quebec are very hot and humid and wearing traditional wool kilt sock becomes very unconfortable
    when it's 25C and above.

I had a flash when I saw a soccer match on TV and saw players wearing these long socks in hot weather. I said that
would be a good idea to try these socks as substitutes for my summer kilt wearing.

I hat to find the right brand because most of them have their company logos on them at the wrong place. That was
the case for the Addidas ones located at the middle of the sock.

Finally I found the right on as the Diadora. The logo is located very low and barely visible for ordianary people. Of course
I would not wear them if I had to go to Highland games or an officicial meeting.

Did some of forum members have tried that before ?

These are lighter weight, a lot of color options. They're retro 70's athletic socks. I run in them.

Uniform color socks are a better option.

I've worn soccer socks with my acrylic kilt back before I had actually purchased any hose. I've not done it since, but they've a few points in their favor. And, plainly, some negatives.

If you're out and active, they're easy to clean if soiled and reasonably inexpensive to replace if damaged. They do breathe nicely and their light weight is great for running around. For those of us with nice calves, the form-fitting nature of them is a plus. I've thin legs with giant feet, so I prefer a bit more bulk in my calf-wear.

On the other hand, if you're wearing flashes (I presume you'd avoid garter ties with this look) the socks are thin enough to see through the turnover. Your turnover would show the inside of the sock, as well. Not an issue with hose that are designed for it, but athletic styles can have a ratty look inside. They're very white, even a bit jarring; quite apart from the old "never wear white hose" issue. And for me, there's just something that feels off about it, but if you feel okay in them and they suit what you're doing, go for it.

They're not soccer socks, but some people here have had good things to say about these cotton socks:

*** to this. they are not fancy but cool, comfortable and inexpensive, I have large calves and these socks stretch enough to work.

you can search sock dreams for "kilt socks" to get a good list of cotton to wool socks. pay attention to length and how wide they stretch if you have monster calves

on the other hand, if it is hot (like down here in LA), just wear shoes and ankle socks--unless you are wearing traditional garb. i am mostly running around in pv and sandals until things get cooler.

Now really, Quebec isn't that hot in the summer. I highly doubt you'll be too inconvenienced in regular kilt socks.

How do I know? Well, I have spent part of almost every summer since 1961 at my family's summer property north of Maniwaki. There are some warm days, without a doubt, but generally the weather is pretty nice in the summer. Save the soccer socks for the playing field.
