I want to make a sporran! But I need help.
Hello my favorite kilties,
ok so here's what my intentions are;
I was at the Oregon Black Sheep festival yesterday, it's a fiber crafters wet dream basically. While I was there I found two awesome rabbit pelts one was orange ish with dyed in tiger stripes the other was white with dyed in zebra stripes and I want to make a fur sporran. I have some fake fur I want to make one with first so I don't ruin my amazing finds. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find a good cantle-less pattern or how to find one!? I'll post pictures once I've started.

You will find some expert sporran makers here. I am not one of those, but I like to create and design. After looking at a lot of pictures and the sporrans I had purchased, and seeing what materials I could easily obtain, I have made a couple, one of rabbit. They have been posted on this site. Mainly it was fun to do.

Off kilt-er Dude;
If you take a look at the Image that is posted with "Mr.Charles Anthony" you wil see the really easy one I made from a marine upholstery fabrick! There are-as said- a bunch of good ideas here. Try it 1st-I agree- on the fake fur first.
& Yes, photos(I am still trying to figure that detail out!)
Happy sewing

Nice! Mr Charles Anthony!
I think I have come up with another option as well for a plain leather or fabric sporran. I was in the army surplus store a couple weeks back and bought a canteen pouch that I am reverse engineering at the moment.... Ok so I am taking it apart because I like the look of it with all of its pieces! Lol it's not just a plain run of the mill one either it has two side pockets that have a box pleat and Velcro'd flap. I am taking pics as I take it apart so I can put it back together again when im done! Lol plus it gives me parts to measure so I can make a duplicate for my purposes! Lol oh and I'll be drawing up the pattern and letting it loose in the rabble for fun.

I have several that I have made, if you PM me your email address I will send you what I have. I found that a simple Rob Roy style is easy as a first sporran.
Here is an example of one of my sporrans.
