    Tartan patterned shirts/flannel shirts

I grew up in the 80's and 90's and can remember a succession of tartan patterned flannel shirts which I, and my brothers, wore during the winter. In particular a red one which reminds me of the MacGregor tartan. That red one was almost always available over the years, but I think these kinds of shirts have fallen from popularity since then. Some of the others, one of which was all muddy and muted colors, really never seemed like much of anything except a warm shirt to wear during the long cold (average 45 degrees farenheit) winters.

I still wear checkered shirts today as I prefer a patterned collared shirt to just a plain white or blue oxford for office wear. At least one I have now vaguely resembles the Scotland? tartan pattern.

So, for the colonials on this board (USA, Canada, NZ, Austraila, etc.) do you remember any favorite 'tartan' shirts or do you weart them now?

For folk from the Isles (Brittania and Hibernia) what do folks in your part of the world think of people wearing plaid shirts as opposed to kilts or trews? No lumber jack jokes, I grew up in the DC suburbs.

Well my favorite was offered by LL Bean in the early eighties that was a dress shirt in Malcolm tartan. I got one for all the family. Worn out long ago. Although one of my residents a retired Air Force Colonel has managed to preserve his from then. I'ved asked him to pass it on to me instead of the Goodwill Thrift.

Yeah, I have a few plaid flannels in my closet that I wear in the cooler months.

We have been lucky that Buchanan has been a favorite tartan for shirts off and on for many years. L.L. Bean, Land's End, Eddie Bauer to name a few have all made both flannel and dress shirts in the tartan. But for warmth and shear wearability Pendleton and Woolrich are hard to beat

Another nod of the head to LL Bean. They have produced flannel shirts, lined and unlined, pajamas and house coats in my family tartan for years. They have been a staple under the Christmas Tree for my sons and I for many years.

Have a bunch of tartan shirts - like to wear them with solid color kilts. Have the West Point, Navy, Air Force, and Leatherneck military tartan shirts from LL Bean. Also have a nice Scott tartan shirt from Bean.

Have the classic Royal Stewart tartan shirt from J. Peterman

And just got a Pendleton catalog today that offers the State of Oregon tartan in a shirt.

You may need to do the dropdown tartan list to get to the pic.

And hit zoom to get the best look at the tartan.

It is here in the south.

45 is our 'average' temperature but we do get the single digits sometimes. For once, living near the DC-Boston megalopolis is helpful.

Found a Crawford tartan shirt in a second-hand store, and I save it for very 'special' occasions; like the night before my son's wedding...
