"San Diego Tartan Day" seeks official district tartan recognition

Mention of Tartan Day in another thread sent me Googling for info on local events. In the process I ran across the San Diego Tartan Day tartan, registered earlier this month (registry page). The group says they "will seek approval from the city and county of San Diego to achieve designation as a “district” Tartan for all San Diegans."

My first thought is "reminiscent of Leatherneck" but that's not a bad thing. The list of "colors symbolizing. . ." is so extensive as to be overwhelming, and makes me think both "trying too hard" and "designed by committee." Overall, though, it's pleasing to my eye and might be fun to work out a "flashing" pleated version with that red/gold stripe.

The tartan is pretty. They went a little overboard with their explanation of the colours' "significance."

Overall, a nice tartan. Yes, I agree, reminiscent of Leatherneck, but that's a good thing!

I always remember my first trip to San Diego almost 30 years ago, leaving post in 10 degree weather in New Hampshire on old Eastern Airlines "Moonlight Madness Fare" where you could fly the Red Eye cheap as long as you didn't take luggage as they sold out the cargo hold. As proud Bostonian, I was struck by the ubiquitous "San Diego, America's Most Beautiful City" signs.

I just hope this tartan won't be marketed at "America's Most Beautiful Tartan".

I think that tartan is very nice, whatever the reasons they had for putting in those colours.

Here's a direct link to the tartan

The design is a bit unbalanced, the yellow stripes being too strong and overwhelming the blue area somewhat. Were I to have it woven I would adjust the colours to correct the imbalance.

Looks like another nice tartan from Lochcarron, just eleven miles up the road from here.
