Plaid from Culloden - an update and some Canadian assistance needed.

Whilst working on an update of my paper on the Moyhall Plaid I can across some fascinating information which indicated that the tartan, probably the 1821 copy, was rewoven c1899 as a small run of three plaids the second of which is apparently owned by a family in Canada. The enquiry, discussed on the Ancrum website, in 2005 offers the potential to complete my research if I can get some better pictures of the later copy which is there I need some assistance.

Unfortunately I have no idea where in Canada Larry McKay or his family live and although I've emailed him I've not had a reply and don't know if the email address is still active. Anyone up for the challenge?

That's a bit of a needle in a haystack! Have you tried Googling his email to see if it points at anything else?

Very interesting, Peter. I wish you the best of luck with contacting Mr. McKay. The Moyhall plaid looks very similar to the Gow (Smith) tartan, though there are obvious differences between the two setts.

Not doing terribly well so far but it's early days. I've repaired the first link in the OP. You'll see that whilst its red, blue and green, the Moyhall plaid is much more complex than the Gow.

By chance, only today I had my hands on a fragment of the original plaid, the first time I've ever held a piece. It's very fine and hard and the plaid would certainly have been something worn by a gentleman rather than a hills plaid. I wonder where the Price acquired it before leaving it at Moy. I guess we'll never know.
