My big fat DIY wedding
Last month my love Meg and I married. Both of us are crafty types so when we started to plan our wedding we decided that we could do most of the things that normal people pay other people to do. The abbreviated list includes making a sporran (I previously posted), converting lace brogues to buckle brogues, making the wedding dress, making the cake, printing the invitation/rsvp cards, writing the ceremony, pimping a wedding arch with beacoup tartan. making gift bags for the tables and on and on..... In the home stretch it seemed like there wasn't any way we could finish everything but with grit and determination we did. We had a ball at the wedding. Family, friends, good food and good music made for a memorable day.
One of my good friends made my tartan waistcoat and altered a notch collar tux jacket to a custom kilt jacket. I went with solid brass French marine buttons on the jacket to match the brass sporran and brass shoe buckles. I decided to go with a cravat instead of the lace jabot and cuffs. All in all I was pleased with how it came together.

First of all, congratulations Scott and Meg; what a perfect way to get married, you two look great! Crafts and music and 'doin' it yourselves' gives you purpose and keeps you going, and... sharing it all with your love makes it even better.

First thing I noticed, from her belt, is that you showed good judgment in choosing a Buchanan woman. Best wishes to you from another such a one.
Splendid job of making so many of your wedding items. It's personal, it's celebratory, and you're making your own memories rather than using someone else's vision.
Ruadh gu brath!

@ Room2ndfloor, Yes I did! I also have Buchanan connection through my GGGrandmother also.
@ piperdbh The cake was lemon and the tartan icing was an edible ink transfer we put on fondant.
@ Father Bill, Meg wrote our ceremony and included many old traditions such as the bell of truce, hand fasting and oathing stone. She did such a good job that the officiant didn't change a word and Meg included an explaination what these were and I think everyone enjoyed that. Funny that we use expressions from these traditions( saved by the bell, tying the knot and set in stone) not knowing where they actually came from.
Another link to Scotland was that we had our rings made on Skye by goldsmith Garth Duncan of Duncan House. He is and amazing artist
Thanks all.
