World record number of kilts?
In the May edition of the Tartan Herald, published by the STA, is an article and picture of an 85 year old man from Saltcoats who has 250 kilts, 50 sporrans and 50 jackets.
Is this a record? It leaves Hamish trailing far behind.
Where does this leave the one kilt theory?

Wow!
Does he actually wear them or is that more of a museum-type collection?

I'll never catch up. Now, that's some serious kilting.

A lot of cash for something he can't wear without going through most of the year to get there.

Wow , that's a lot of kilts and other attire .
Did the article state whether they were all for his personal use ... or was he a collector ?

CMcGWow! Does he actually wear them or is that more of a museum-type collection?
There is a picture of him wearing one. The article - the Tartan Herald is in the members' section - says he has bought a large number from second hand shops. So it seems he has been a devoted collector of Highland dress but also wears the stuff, or at least some of it.

Stuff like that begins to get into "hoarder" territory, perhaps.
An old friend of mine, who lives out in the desert, in "four wheeler" country, starting buying and fixing up old jeeps. I hear now that he's hoarding the things, he has 18 of them in 18 rented storage units.
With the kilt the opposite extreme are several pipers I know, some of whom who have been playing for decades, who have never owned a kilt: they're always in a band and wear the kit the band issues them, kilt, sporran, hose, flashes, jacket, necktie. They only have to buy their shirt, ghillies, and hat.
I've gone long stretches over the last 40 years when I've only owned one kilt. I have three now, the most I've ever owned.
I will say that I troll Ebay for kilt-related things and if I wore a size 38 jacket I could have piles of lovely tweed vintage jackets got for next to nothing, if I wore a size 28 kilt I could buy dozens of lovely vintage kilts for the price of one new one. If I were sized like that I might become a hoarder too!

Still looking more sensible and practical, I would say.
