Would you consider a kilt with moth holes in the apron in "excellent" condition?

It's a small thing really. Really it is. A baby/toddler kilt. It was described as in excellent condition but dirty. It arrived today, dirty which I expected, the inside leather tab almost completely detached (I can fix that) and six small moth holes in the apron (which I can't fix). I didn't pay much for it but I am still disappointed. I have bought a lot of non kilt related items on ebay and so far have never had to deal with a complaint. Not even sure what to say to the seller, I'm not sure if I want to keep it or send it back... if that is even an option.

I hope this doesn't bode of other purchases since I have an adult kilt being shipped from another seller who is hopefully more honest in the details.

I'm with David- moth holes can usually be fixed, but it's not cheap. A little pull or snag on an edge MIGHT be considered okay, but holes in the apron are definitely something that would take a kilt from "excellent" to "good" condition, and then the problem should be noted.

Also, if the kilt is that dirty and has obviously been hit by moths, you might want to bag and freeze it for a few weeks to make sure there are no moth eggs hiding anywhere.

Contact the seller and tell them you are unhappy w your purchase because of the misrepresented condition. Tell them you want to return it. You might have to pay for the return postage but you might ask for it to refunded due, again to the misrepresentation of the item. I have had good luck with eBay so don't be discouraged.

Compared with some kilts that I have seen worn, then a few small moth holes could be seen as a minor blemish, but I don't think your purchase, by any stretch of imagination could be described as "exellent".

Thank you for your replies. I am contacting the seller to see what she has to say. I paid such a small amount for it, 12.99 shipping included, it is not a great hardship just a disappointment.

I don't even have a grandbaby yet but am "buying green bananas" in anticipation because my DIL was so taken with the babies at the OC Scottish Festival.

Thank you for the suggestions. I just got a reply from Ebay;

"We let the seller know the item wasn't as described.

The seller has offered you a full refund for the purchase price plus original shipping if you return the item. To get your refund, ship the item back to the seller. You will need to cover the cost of returning the item. Make sure you ship the item by Jun 07, 2013."

That will not happen. I am not going to the trouble to pack up and pay to return a 13 dollar item. I'm going to tell them that. If it doesn't get resolved more to my satisfaction I will just give negative feed back and chalk it up to a bad ebay experience.

I think that if you paid for excellent then you should get excellent - if the price was low then perhaps you do not have as much to complain about, but it does not affect your rights.

If you wish to return it as not as described and get a refund you can - though you might be out by the cost of the postage.

Let the seller know - but also inform eBay and also PayPal if you used that - both have time limits and savy sellers will keep you hanging on with promises and delays until the time limit is passed and then just stop responding to messages. Sending photos of the damage with your complaint will strengthen your case.
