    My first kilt, mid-alterations.

As I mentioned in my last post, my first kilt arrived in the mail and my weight loss during shipping was enough to make it too big even. So, I decided I would do the alteration myself (by which I mean relocating the inner strap and outer buckles).

This is a picture of how it looks right now. I haven't yet replaced the buckles for the outer apron, and though I have moved the strap I found from wearing it that I haven't moved it far enough to allow for future weight loss (which I certainly plan to happen). I should have had my wife help me with the measurement, which I'll be sure to do tomorrow when I hit it again.

My flashes are a dark green, and they're harder to see against the black socks than I thought they would be. They're there, so it's not a big deal I guess, but I'd prefer them to be a bit more visible. Different colored socks would probably fix that, but I haven't started looking into other color options yet.

I wasn't actually planning on having any pictures taken tonight or anything, I just wanted to show my wife how things looked with what I had so far. But, my wife being who she is, it took all of 0.00002 seconds for her to whip out the camera phone. She took quite a few pictures, and a lot of them I didn't really like. Part of it has to do with the kilt still not fitting right, it's not as tight as I'd like it to be, so it keeps sliding down a bit as I move and a lot of the pics had the kilt going down near the bottom of my knees. My shirt also isn't tucked into anything, so every time the kilt slid down and I pulled it back up the shirt became more and more untucked.

So, not the greatest pictures, but not too bad overall considering the kilt doesn't actually fit yet. In most of the pictures I actually look rather goofy and they had me second guessing this kilt wearing thing all together. After watching the video she took of me walking in it, I'm more pleased and more comfortable wearing it. I just need to get those buckles and straps re-positioned and then make sure everything is in its proper place.

I had my wife sit down and watch me bend over, squat down, and sit down to see how revealing different things were to know what all I should avoid doing. I'm definitely going to have to find myself some shorts to wear under the kilt since I have LDS garments that need to remain covered and keep me modest, so I'll have to look into that next.

Here is the video that my wife took. You'll hear my comment at the end there where I wasn't too sure about wearing the kilt as it was taken after I had looked at some of the pictures, but now that I've seen it I'm feeling better about it. She also didn't tell me she had started the video, I was walking down the hall and had just stopped to tuck in my shirt (again) when she started recording and commenting.

Anyway, that's me in my first kilt for the first time, missing buckles and all!

You look great walking in that kilt, got the swish/swagger down pat!

As for tucking in the shirt -- I keep trying to convince my husband that, in private, the "girl's way" works wonders. Instead of trying to tuck from the top/outside, just lift your kilt hem, grab the lower hem of shirt, and pull downwards. Much easier to get it tight and straight that way! In public, of course, minor adjustments from the outside are the norm.

I did that late last night, right before I took it off, and worked a great deal better. I should have been doing it that way the whole time, but I didn't even think about it until I was almost done.

Also, I meant for this to be in the Show Us Your Kilts board. Apparently I had too many different windows open when I clicked to post.
