I saw it too, and can only speculate that it would be worn with trews.

That's certainly one of the stranger things I've seen today.

I don't think that'd be worn with a kilt OR trews- it's just way too long. Look where the pockets are on that thing, they are down where the front pockets would be on a pair of trousers.

At first I was wondering if it were meant to be worn open, like a frock coat. It appears that the lower of each of the double buttons is a 'dummy'- look how each lower button is quite straight while the uppers
are all cattywampus. But you'd imagine that a frock would have a more decorated cuff.

It's just way too long way out of proportion . without the sleeves it could pass as say a 17/18th century waistcoat may be!

Maybe it started life as something else- perhaps a cassock or surplice- and had the Kiltish buttons added later. It would be interesting to see its insides, and to know just how old it is... I am afraid the one thing we can be sure of- "traditional" it is not. It seems to be missing a proper collar. The description says it has a polyester lining. Might it be some kind of 1970's Nehru tunic? At 35 inches, it is mighty long, longer than a "long" Saxon jacket

quite possibly, a good starter Montrose for someone who is not ready to bespeak his own.

{edit} on second thought, probably best not look at it. I am sure nobody wants such a jacket. nothing at all- go away, Do not linger here. Nothing at all to see.

I do not think it is vintage, but rather 60s/70s militaria type style. Stow, by the way, is a village in the Scottish Borders.

I wonder if it's a ladies dress. I know there doesn't seem to be the normal darting etc around the bust, but the buttons and the lack of any sort of collar would lead me to think that is not a men's coat....but I have no idea.
