The jonesing begins, but not for a kilt...

The other day I was looking for a site to run a survival camp for my scouts and accidentily clicked on a linked on the site I was looking at as I used to use it when I worked at a bushcraft school.

They're looking for an assistant activity centre manager to help run the site and run activities. The link hadn't even fully opened when the wife is shouting at me to apply - I'm an air rifle instructor, bushcraft instructor and am happiest when messing about in the woods with shelters and fire.

This morning I sent off my application.
The job comes with a 3 bed bungalow, no rent etc., and for me would be THE dream job. Fingers crossed!

Bushcraft is basically survival skills/old fashioned scout camping skills. Something I've had the rare opertunity to learn from the indigenous people around the world who call it 'every day living'.
Always makes me laugh when people come up with fantastic new skills they've just discovered, that have been in daily use in the Sahara, Sri Lanka, etc., for 10s of thousands of years.

As a former youth firearm safety instructor and outdoor enthusiast, I totally understand your excitement at the chance of landing such a great position. It's unbelievably rewarding to see kids discovering what they are capable of and succeeding at challenges in the wild. Best of luck, mate.

    1oldsarge,

I live on the same "side of the pond" as you and I know what Bushcraft is. In the Canadian Military, it is used interchangeably with "fieldcraft".

    Best of luck, Laird!
